We are looking for a way to make meetings sustainable, in the sense that they don't get old. So they probably need to be fun and playful and emotionally deep and embodied.
Getting Started
Here is a simple recipe which works even with people who haven't been trained in Human Systems methods.
- Start the meeting with a Sharing Circle.
- If the agenda is unclear, play Guess The Agenda. Otherwise, proceed with the meeting.
- Whenever there's too much chatter, fold in No Reply.
- When you need some exercise or some fun, do 10 minutes of Reality Prototyping or Why Not.
- If your meeting is overtaken by someone with a "take" on what the group should do, playTurtles Rule Game.
Dope Meetings, Level 2
Once you've introduced your team to the meeting structures above, consider putting them through the Human Systems classes. This will make it possible for them to play two more advanced games which can add to any meeting.
- When someone's values are suppressed by the work environment or situation itself, play Hell Realm Remodeling or the Ultimate Game to redesign it.
- Play a "Work Edition" of Out of Character, where people practice acting in the ways they are afraid to be seen at work, so they know they can bring their whole selves to work.
And beyond!
Dope meetings are a good first step towards Resilient Work. Once you've gotten beyond level 2, you may want to add other structures like Doubt Club, the Alternate Life Vault, and Turtleocracy.
