Our civilization is facing many simultaneous crises: crises in ecosystems, meaningful work and lives, global economics, media, and political legitimacy. A common cause is that systems have been designed around affluence and engagement, rather than life meaning. Current systems—despite their successes measured in dollars, clicks, views, or votes—fail to support the values and meanings of their participants.

New local and global systems are needed to navigate these crises. Systems that work together to support 11 billion people with meaningful lives at zero carbon. New forms of architecture, politics, economics, land ownership, agriculture, etc. A brand new Social Stack.

Human Systems exists to help redesign social systems around meaning. It's built around the leading values-based Redesign Method. Everything we do is organized around one global challenge: redesigning social systems around human values and meaningful lives.

This will be the major economic change of the 21st Century. The social infrastructure of the future will take these values and meanings into account. It will measure its success differently, and operate with different goals. We believe there's a bright future for companies, governance mechanisms, and other orgs built on a foundation of values and meanings.

🚫 Antigoals

• Consulting. We don't get paid directly by companies to help with their products or processes. Instead, we help them train up their people, or we send our diplomats in for free. This is to avoid perverse incentives—we are not in the business of helping companies, we are in the business of effecting a risky transition in organizational processes and design processes. Our customer is not the company, but the values of the people inside and the people it could serve.
• Company innovation workshops. The most popular design practice in this space, "design thinking", was completely defanged and infantilized by the incentives and audience requirements of the innovation workshop scene.
• Personal growth and transformation. We don't want to become a Landmark Forum or Tony Robbins operation. The incentives here, too, are perverse. We need to specialize in helping people redesign and effect real change, not in wooing them, psyching them up, or giving them experiences which feel "transformative" or "connecting".

• Q. Why do you focus on values and meaning, rather than ecological factors, etc?
• Q. Don't people already know how to design for meaning, it's just not profitable?
• Q. Okay, but just teaching people to design for meaning won't be enough to change systems, will it?
