Each Wednesday in October, a social designer will present structures for group decision making or social choice—from online platforms to in-person games.
Values to Consider (When Designing Decision-Making Systems)
- Actually good, well-informed decisions.
- Well-justified, accountable decisions
- Time efficient
- Experience of moral weight
- Seemingly legitimate decisions, "the people have spoken" vibe.
- Not vulnerable to conspiracy and strong-man tactics behind the scenes.
- Inclusivity—how many people in the group get a say in the decision?
- Exit versus voice—how important is it for the group to stay together, versus split into different groups with different decisions
- Truthfulness and honesty—helping people act with integrity, rather than encouraging manipulation and lying
