Overview

This 60-minute session is designed to introduce a group of strangers with no (or minimal) exposure to Human Systems, in settings like conferences, retreats or meetups. As of Nov. 2018, this session has been refined through testing with small groups of 4-10 people (at Meetups) and larger groups of 15-35 people (at conferences). It’s still a work-in-progress, and we’ll edit this doc as we learn more and improve the format.

Messaging

Usually, you’ll need a name+description. Adjust title based on your audience. Here are some examples:

• Design Ethics & The Time Well Spent Movement
• Time Well Spent: Designing Social Spaces

Preparation

• Pens or pencils, enough for everyone
• Worksheets: One printed worksheet for each person. Find the worksheet in the appendix of this document. It’s condensed to fit on one page, so printing will be cheaper.
• A place to sit, and either a table or clipboard for each person to write on
• If there are more than 5 people, you’ll need space to break people out into groups of three, with enough space between groups so they aren’t distracted by the talking or laughing of nearby groups.
• Timer: on your phone or otherwise
• Optional: A stereo and an ambient focus track like this one

Format

Introducing people to these ideas in 60 minutes is challenging, so you’ll need to stick to the schedule as much as possible. See the appendix for the detailed version of the Leader’s Guide for this session. Here’s the format:
